"Gun Control- Does ANYONE have it right?"

The simple answer is "No". At least no one on the news shows or public service announcements, and certainly no one in any of the pro- or anti- gun-rights extremeist groups. 

On the other and, most of the "regular people" have understood this issue for years. 

"Amendment 2: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Pretty clear, isn't it?  Of  course, anything can be MADE complicated, especially if you make your living off complication.  It sometimes seems to me like the ACLU and NRA have some secret agreement to keep the rest of us donating money to them every year. 

Let me make my own poition clear for anyone who has not yet read my blog (" A Well-Armed Sheep"):  I LOVE my guns.  I am an avid collecter and sport shooter.  I personally do not hunt, but I support the rights of those who do.  As soon as the assult rifle ban lifted, I added one to my collection. 

I do agree that there is a need for some restrictions on gun posession.  People with a record of violent crimes should not be armed, or those with serious psychological problems.  We need a better and faster way to check the background of gun buyers.  And, AS MUCH AS I MIGHT WANT ONE, I DO NOT need a fully automatic .50 calibre machine gun or an operational M203 Grenade launcher.  I will have to settle- some day- for a .50 Desert Eagle.
